A straight truck is any rigid truck where the cab and cargo body sit on the same frame. That means a garbage truck is also a straight truck, technically. The real comparison isn't "straight truck vs. garbage truck." It's about the body. A freight box is designed for pallets that spread their weight evenly. A refuse body is designed for trash that gets packed against the sides. Neither one is designed for a steel-drum roller or a tracked mini excavator, which concentrate weight into a small footprint and need tiedown points that actually hold.
In 2021, we loaded a small roller into a straight truck with a liftgate from a loading dock. Unloading at the job site was a different story. No dock. No forklift.
